What is Indian Creek MetroPark?

Indian Creek MetroPark is a place of natural beauty and historic interest located in Reily Township in western Butler County, Ohio.  It consists of four areas:
  • Springfield Road Area (also known as Upper Indian Creek)
  • Oxford-Reily Road Area (also known as Lower Indian Creek)
    • These two areas are considered the main area of Indian Creek MetroPark.  They share a boundary and total about 138 acres.
    • The areas feature a reach of Indian Creek going through the middle along with scenic views, woods, ponds, wetlands, trails, a shelter, parking, and play areas.
  • Pioneer Church/Thomas Farm Area
    • 98 acres located on Indian Creek Road
    • Site of the Indian Creek Regular Baptist Church dating from 1829
    • A combination of wooded hills and wet meadows along Chase's Run
  • Bunker Hill Cemetery Area
    • 1 acre on Reily-Millville Road
    • Site of the Bunker Hill Universalist Cemetery

What is a Vision Plan?

MetroParks is creating a Vision Plan for Indian Creek MetroPark.  Vision Plans are general depictions of potential park enhancements that could occur over ten years or more.  They are used to communicate the future vision for a particular park to potential grant funders, sponsors, and the public.  Plans are adopted by the Board of Park Commissioners following a public engagement process that unfolds over several months.  The timing of when the enhancements shown on the plans are implemented depends on the availability of funding and how they are balanced with other MetroParks priorities.  In most cases, further studies or designs will be needed before work begins on a particular park enhancement.

Why a Vision Plan for Indian Creek MetroPark?

MetroParks is in the process of creating Vision Plans for all of its parks.  Parks that have Vision Plans already adopted by the Board of Park Commissioners include Chrisholm, Elk Creek, Forest Run, Governor Bebb, Rentschler Forest, and Voice of America.  Vision Plans are an important first step toward pursuing grant funding for future park enhancements.

What is the Process?

  • We started by reaching out to the community to gather information on what they would like to see happen in the park, via an online survey and a listening session that was held at the park on September 23, 2021.
  • The first draft of the Vision Plan is now available online for review and comment from now until January 3, 2022.  Click here to view the plan and submit comments.
  • On November 18, 2021, a second round of in-person Listening Sessions was held for people to see the draft Vision Plan and provide their feedback.
  • MetroParks' planning team will take the feedback provided by the community, revise the draft Vision Plan, and present a final Vision Plan to the Board of Park Commissioners for adoption in February 2022.
  • Each time we take a new step in the Vision Planning process, it will be announced in the "News and Alerts" section of the MetroParks website.
